Jaguars rookie Justin Blackmon arrested for “aggravated DUI”

Blackmon doesn’t want to be the next Matt Jones or Reggie Williams

First round draft pick Justin Blackmon isn’t having a great start to his career as a Jaguar. The rookie was busted for aggravated DUI, which differs from just a DUI. The term aggravated means his blood alcohol content was above .15. The legal limit is .08, so the .15 implies he was fairly intoxicated. Blackmon was arrested for a DUI while attending Oklahoma State, and this surely isn’t how he wanted to start his career before he even stepped onto the field.

The fifth overall pick had a few red flags entering the league and this won’t help his reputation. He has not signed his contract yet and ProFootballTalk speculates this could hurt the amount of guaranteed money he will sign for. Patrick Peterson, the fifth overall pick last season, signed for $18.9 million over 4 years with a $11.9 million dollar bonus. It will be interesting to see what Blackmon ends up signing for. The Jags certainly hope this isn’t a sign of things to come after their recent history with first round wide receivers.

Update: Blackmon reportedly blew a .24, three times the legal limit. For a 215 pound dude to have that high of a BAC he had to be doing some serious drinking. He also “was unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred, and his eyes were glassy and blood shot.” Blackmon admitted to the officer that he had been drinking prior to driving. Reports say that he could be looking at a 1-2 game ban by the NFL as this is not his first arrest.
